i have a bad habit of reading or hearing a word and then "typing" it over and over again with my fingers until it just is right.
is this OCD ?? or what, if anything?

Yes it is OCD. There are varying degrees of the disorder and as long as it does not interfere with your life don't worry. I have a friend who does this exact thing - her husband counts his foot steps. We tend to gravitate to other OCDs - or there are just lots more of us low level ones.
