Over hydrated?

Is it possible to become over hydrated?? I drink about 4 litres or more of water every day, and never drink pop, coffee, tea, etc. I only drink water and 1 cup of milk a day, and 1 serving of cranberry juice a day.
To sound gross, when I urinate, my urine is usually crystal clear.
Is there such a thing as being too hydrated? If so, why is it bad to be over hydrated? Symptoms, effects, etc?

Oh and should also ask- when you are really well hydrated and all of the sudden your urine goes from clear to BRIGHT yellow despite drinking a lot, is it cause for concern? I am 36 weeks pregnant, if that has anything to do with it.
Answer:
I'm not sure if too much water is a bad thing. If your an athlete there is a chance you may face hyponatremia (which can be fatal) because you're losing salt and water but only replacing water, but in a typical day I don't think water would be too harmful.

Clear urine around 2-4 times a day is actually a good way to indicate that your body is getting enough water, so that shouldn't be a concern. As for suddenly turning yellow, that could depend on your diet. Excess vitamin b2 (riboflavin) gets excreted through urine, and gives it a bright yellow color if it exists in large quantities. So if you happen to take multivitamins, or consume a lot of milk, cheese, leafy green vegetables, almonds, or anything else with this vitamin, it could explain the sudden change in color.
I wouldn't worry...you must make alot of trips to the bathroom...and the more hydrated you are when you deliver the easier it is for you to deliver...so go ahead, and I am very sure the Dr. in this case will be very happy...Good luck to you Sweetie, and God Bless Your New Baby...
No, you can't get over hydrated. It's actually good that your urine is clear, because that means that you have enough water in your system.
