SHE CAN'T FORCE ME CAN SHE ?
HELP. I'm sooo scared of needles %26 feeling very sick
I'm being tested for Anemia
Answer:
I know exactly how you feel. I am absolutely petrified of needles too (and im 21 lol).
Make sure you have plenty of sugar in your system before, it helps with the light headedness and lowers your chances of passing out. Also- DONT LOOK AT THE NEEDLE!
when they do it, close your eyes and tell them not to warn you. that helps me.
good luck
how old are you?
it'll only last about 5 seconds. just don't look.
Well, first of all 14 is a little old to still be freaking out about needles, but it's not unheard of. Just tell the lab tech you are scared and they will help you.
Yes, since you are under 18 your mom can force you to go.
If you have anemia, you need to know now since it can be fatal.
Good luck!
Sing your favorite song and dont look. I like to sing"and i come from alabama with a banjo on my knee..."
Yes she can make you. you are under 18 so she can make you do pretty much anything. If you are sick you need to get this done. It's not that bad. dont be a drama queen over it. try have 40 needles in your back at once for allergy testing then have 20 in each arm. again, if you are sick this needs to be done would you rather die??
listen up g/f!! quitttttttttttt wa wa pissypantsing!!alright? geesh its no big deal..i dont like needles either but theyw ill jsut draw a vial or 2 maybe 3 of blood to test it ..so they can tell how bad your anemia is..now this isnt so bad considering..you could be having a pap smear or a colonoscomy..hahhah so chill...during life we all have to do things we dont like..but its part of growing up...so by the time you read this answer and others ..your blood test will have been done ...so grow up and prepare yourself the res tof your life with all kinds of tests.also..yes your mother can..as long as your underage and still home...hugsss
Yes she can actually because you are 14. Don't worry, its not bad at all. You could ask for the nurse to put some local anesthetic gel on your skin before they take the blood so you don't feel it. It takes about 30mins to work though.
I also hate needles, but this is something you MUST do. I think of it as that and don't look. The people who do this are good and they will be as gentle as they can. It's really not that bad, the key is not to watch. Best of luck and remember you MUST do this, and don't make this difficult for your Mom she is doing what is best for you and she doesn't want to see you go through this either, no does she want you to get sick. It's time to put your big boy/girl pants on and realize you are getting older and to show your Mom how mature you are. Life is full of doing things that are scary, but they have to be done.
your mum can force you to go until you're 18.
and plus, its worth it. with anemia, you wouldn't be able to do many physical activities without becoming short of breath and your muscles hurting, so its better to know if you have it or not.
Elyseholly this statement you made "Make sure you have plenty of sugar in your system before, it helps with the light headedness and lowers your chances of passing out"
is some VERY bad advice. Yes, you are correct in saying it helps w/light headness and chances of passing out BUT if the test she is taking needs to be a fasting test (meaning NOTHING BY MOUTH) she will screw up the lab results on the blood test.
When you go to the lab for the test, tell them that you are frightened of needles, they will help you relax. Sometimes they may have you lie down if you are really scared.
It will only take a few seconds for a blood test and then it will be over.
Take your music with you and listen to it while it is being done . Or eat the popsicle while it is being done. Both work.
Anemia can be serious and you may have to take iron pills and maybe folic acid to treat this. Also drinking vitamin c filled juice or taking vitamin c with the pills will help the iron be absorbed by your body more efficiently.
Good Luck and just try to relax. Have a treat after or something else you like.
Let the phlebotomist (the person who draws blood) know that you are scared. She will understand. If you have good veins in your arm, it will be quick and easy to draw blood. You will only feel a little pin prick - having a paper cut is worse. Don't look at the needle and keep talking while you get this done. It will help to distract you. If you feel a little faint, let the phlebotomist know and she will help you feel better before you leave. This is one of those unpleasant, necessary things you need to do, but it won't take long or hurt more than a second.
